The Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is a historic San Jose, California mansion that is supposedly haunted by the ghosts of all those killed by Winchester rifles. Sarah Winchester, widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, believed the only way to satisfy the spirits of the house was keep the house constantly under construction, and she did so for 38 years! The psychic she consulted after her husband and daughter died told her that she must never stop building the house, because she would die if she stopped. As a result of the constant building, there are staircases leading to ceilings and doors that go nowhere.
